Week 927-932 - Happy 4th of July - 07-04-2024
Happy 4th of July
Back in 1977 we built our home on 4 acres in Atascadero and raised 6 kids.
Over the decades we would have dinners with Ellen's sisters and husbands.
We would often speak of leaving California due to the heavy hand of the state government.
The group would discuss what state we might move to.
But Pete would say "We're not ever leaving the home we built here!"
Then in 2006, we bought the Motorhome to see a "little bit of America".
Surprise, surprise, we never lived in our home again! We are now starting our 19th year of full time travel.
This month we had a reunion of the sibs.
In June we were able to celebrate Mirac's 6th grade graduation.
Mirac is the oldest son of our son Nick and wife Hayley.
Their younger son is Max.
Having visited family in San Luis Obispo North County, we moved 30 miles north to Melissa & Mario's 95 acre ranch.
They have put in two RV sites with full hookups; thank you both for your generosity.
Mario and Melissa have turned this fixer-upper into a home.
They remodeled the entire interior and are transforming the landscape.
We always help with projects when we visit.
The project this day was to move a shed from Cousin Tera's house just 2 miles away.
Mario and Melissa have leveled a spot for the shed.
Ellen's brother Art used his trailer and all the equipment needed to move the shed.
We helped a little to get the shed into its new home.
This area of California can get warm, over 100 on some of the summer days.
We drove an hour to get to the Santa Lucia Memorial Campground near Fort Hunter Liggett.
We spent the afternoon enjoying the nearby creek full of pools and mini-water falls.
Pete and Melissa were joined by Mirac and Max. A wonderful hidden retreat.
As we celebrate the birth of our nation, please enjoy this travelogue from our archives.
