Week 797 - Far Horizons RV Resort, Tucson AZ - 11-21-2021

Far Horizons RV Resort, Tucson AZ

We have spent the last two months at the Far Horizons RV Resort. It is the first time that we have booked at a park before seeing it in person. We wanted to be near Pete's sister, Donnalee, who lives just 32 miles south in Green Valley, so we reserved ahead.

We will stay until January 1st, 2022. This is our "patio site".

It is not as wide as we would like but big enough for all our vehicles. The patio is nicely surrounded by a privacy wall. We have met good friends, next site neighbors, Jim and LaRae from Colorado.

This park has motorhome, 5th wheel and trailer sites and many park models.

The park is filled with full time residents, but still has lots of room for gypsies. Here is a basic site and one with a concrete patio and casita (shed).

The office is at the corner of the central complex.

The central area is surrounded by buildings. This area is the hub of the resort activities. The pool and spa are open 24/7 (at least during our stay).

The music stage is the focal point of Karaoke on Wednesday evenings. On Friday there is a live band and an open beer/wine bar. Lots of tables available for attendees.

Our group of friends sit here to enjoy the refreshments, the music and line dancing. Besides Jim and LaRae, we might spend time with Patty, Gary/Brenda, Dave/Linda and Phil/Ruby. Everyone here is very friendly. The Ping Pong table is always available for those needing to expend extra energy.

We came here because of Cal-Am's super offer of four months for the price of two. The months are September to December. We came at the end of September as it was too hot earlier. So really it is a 3-month special. The September A/C energy bill would outweigh the special price.

There is plenty to do here. Pickleball and Bocce Ball are in the complex.

Line dancing is taught twice weekly.

You can take your dog for many different walks. This path leads to a dog park and to a 5th pickleball court.

A big bonus is the Tucson Loop Bike Path. Exiting the park by this PB court, you travel one block to the loop.

The bike loop is over 50 miles long. Mostly it is secreted away from cars. In a few places you must cross an intersection to continue on the loop. In addition to the loop there are 80 more miles of designated street bike lanes. It is such a blessing to access the loop from Far Horizon w/o entering traffic.

Besides the resort sponsored activities, Jim and LaRae bring out their Cornhole Toss each Sunday. We will use the empty site next to ours until it will be filled in January.

The are a lots of specialty rooms. The Cactus room for playing table games and the Arizona room for cards, table-top shuffleboard, darts and piano playing.

The billiard room has four quality tables.

TV/Library center has TV, puzzles, computer and printer.

The fitness center is small but well-equipped.

A very large sewing room is available to all the seamstresses.

All the basic amenities are here: Mail center, R/O water dispenser . . .

. . . laundry with washers/dryers and optional sunshine drying.

We have stayed at six Cal-Am resorts. Most have a theme of lots of activities centered around the pool. They might have a wine/beer bar and meals. All six have pickleball and many more sports. And many have had the 4-month special rates for Sep-Dec.

As our first long term stay, we have really enjoyed the chance to meet and be involved with the friendly folks here. Many parks we have visited claim "our people are the friendliest in town". We have been blessed to find all parks are filled with nice people.

With love, Pete, Ellen and Mandy

"Owe nothing to anyone except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law." Romans 13:8
