Week 472 - Big Rig Bible: Too much good stuff - 08-30-2015
How to Find what "you know is in there"
We bring you more about full time travel as we lolly gag in Paso
Robles, California.
Big Rig Bible is a huge website. What started as a single email home in August 2006 has grown
into 1128 pages of information. The audience is full time RV
travelers and those who want to be. There are dozens of pages of
information helpful for the first time traveler to choose a dealer,
motorhome, accessories, RV parks and other useful RV websites.
There are hundreds of pages of RV parks with photos, weather,
hookups and links to the park's website. There are hundreds more
pages of Weekly Travelogues. Each travelogue addresses a location or
topic with 20 to 30 photos all with captions to let you identify the
photo's content.
Wow! But with so much good stuff, how can you find what "you know is in
there"? First, learn the format of the
Table
of Contents. Second, all travelogues are indexed by topic, see
"Weekly Travelogues by Topic" in the Table of Contents (TOC).
Still can't find what you want? Now you can use the new Search link
that appears on every page. Here are some examples of finding what you want.
Example 1: Ellen told you about an RV park in Oregon with a
private deck, spa and BBQ. But you don't remember which RV park or
even the city. From the TOC click on
RV Parks we have Visited.
Then click on
OR (Oregon) on the State Code list.
Found it! It is
Turtle Rock RV Resort in Gold Beach, Oregon
with Private Spa option
Now suppose you did not remember that it was in Oregon; you couldn't
remember which state. This is time to use the Search. From any
page, click on the Search link.
Enter
private spa into the search phrase
The result of the search is to show you the three pages that contain
the phrase
private spa.
When you click on any link shown, the page appears below the
links. Here is the page
week170. Now you have to find where
on the page
week170 is the
private spa. So you
starting reading the page and gloss over that phrase several times
perhaps never finding "what you know is in there". The solution is
the
Find function. On a PC press Control+F; on an Apple
Command+F. Pressing these keys will give you a chance to search for
a phrase on just this page. The page below shows how the Chrome
browser gives you a text box for your phrase. It indicates that it
found the phrase
private spa in two places. The first is
your initial entry; not what you want. Click on the v (down symbol) and you will
see the second occurrence.
As you read the section with the highlighted
private spa,
you come to realize you don't want to buy this lot for $565,000.00.
Thus this is not the RV park Ellen told you about.
So you scroll back to the top of the page and click on the link
Parks-Visited and you come to the
RV Parks we have Visited
page. Press Control+F again and you will find the highlighted
entry for Turtle Rock RV Resort.
Most full timer travelers are mature adults. Most mature adults
don't like to take a "class" like this. But this one is worth it,
read on. Control+F (or Apple Command+F) will find text on any page
of any website, not just Big Rig Bible. Our Search finds the pages
on Big Rig Bible that contain your search phrase. Control+F finds
the text on that page. If you knew that
private spa was on
the
RV Parks we have Visited page, just go to that page and
press Control+F to find the exact matches. If you don't know the
page, use the Search link. As on all our websites and pages you
can use the Search function on your phone or tablet as well.
Example 2: Pete has CRS and can't remember ... and he wants
to show someone an example of the Daily Diary we keep. By the way,
the Daily Diary is the MOST USEFUL INFORMATION that we keep. It
helps us find people, RV parks, RV services, park ratings, photos,
dates, churches visited, everything we did on a specific date.
Again, click on Search on any page. Enter
DailyDiary in the
search phrase. Oops! Nothing was found.
You must insert a space between words. Re-enter as
Daily Diary
and get results. "Case" does not matter. Thus
Daily Diary and
daily diary will both work.
Now you can click on each of these links and find what you want,
such as the link
Daily-Diary shown below.
The Search came out of the necessity of needing to find pages
quickly. We are always interested in our viewer's ideas of how to
make Big Rig Bible the most useful and friendly of all RV sites.
Please let us hear your comments. Note that the Search page format shown in this travelogue has been greatly updated and is very powerful. Check out
Search Me!
And finally, we never want stalkers or hackers to use our site for
any less than loving purpose. As such, we rarely use people last
names unless it is a business and/or they want their name used.
Using our Search command we have hunted for any use of last names
and have removed them. Please search for your last name and if
found, email us with the page address so that we may remove it. We
can never be too careful.
Thank you and be blessed,
Pete, Ellen and Mandy (last name unknown!)
