Week 191 - Casino Photo Collection - 04-11-2010

The Casino Collection:

An average RV Park costs between $30 and $40 dollars per day without any coupons or discounts.  We average less than $20 per night!  One of the ways we do this is parking at casinos.  Most casinos allow for dry camping for free.  Some have facilities that rival RV parks and some have resorts with all the amenities such as spas, pools, fitness rooms, golf courses, miniature golf, horseshoes, shuffleboard, ponds, rental boats, etc. Fees for overnight camping range from $Free to well, you'll just have to see. This collection has most of the casinos were have visited.  We show pictures of the RV areas but very few  photos of the casinos themselves, because most casinos will not allow cameras inside.

Day Visit Only

One of the ten largest casinos in the world, the Casino de Montreal, Canada, was built as part the the 1967 Expo.  One of our earlier casinos, we took pictures inside and out with no knowledge of whether it  was allowed.

These Canadian Smart Cars are some of the prizes you could win here.

Most of the time that we dry camp, we don't take photos of our camping spot.  It just doesn't occur to us.  We searched Atlantic City, New Jersey looking for dry camping spots and did not find any.  We called Harrah's and they told us we could camp in their storage lot.  Not glamorous but free and the casino had a Karaoke night and the contestants were pros, perhaps casino entertainers!

Skagit Casino in Bellingham, Washington is very nice. As we followed the signs to a seemingly nice RV area we passed this casino and headed down a gravel road for about 1 mile to the dry camping area. Okay, it was free, seemingly safe and the free shuttle would take you to the casino.

The $50,000 Dollar Casino in Haugan, Montana has a couple of interesting features.  The first is they have 50,000 Silver Dollars hung on their walls.

But more importantly, they offer free camping with 30 amp power. We stayed two nights just because they had free power!

Casinos with RV Parks

The Casino Queen in East St. Louis, Illinois has a nice RV Park with typical park pricing of $33 per night (08-2007).  Hookups included 5WSC.  The legend is 5=50 amp, W=water, S=sewer and C=cable TV. Other legend entries are 3=30 amp, 2=20 amp, E=electric (30 or 50 but not noted), I=Internet and D=dump.

This casino is about a 1/4 to 1/2 mile away and like most casinos they provide a door to door shuttle (tips are usually accepted).  The dates we last checked the rates are shown in parentheses.

Carson Valley Inn is in the quaint little town of Minden, Nevada.  The RV park has showers and laundry, but as an RV guest you have access to the pool, spa and fitness room in the casino's hotel.

There are two indoor spas on the second floor with nice views.  Hookups: 3WSC for $30 (04-2009).

Temecula, California's Pechanga RV Resort was our first casino stay.  Sites are top flight with large concrete pad/patios.

Pool, spa, laundry, showers and door to door shuttle.  Hookups include 5WSC for $42 (01-2008).

Riverside Casino RV is a very large park on a hill overlooking Laughlin, Nevada, the casinos and the Colorado River.

Sites are gravel but flat.  The park has showers and laundry and you have access to the pool, spa and fitness center at the casino.  Hookups are EWSC for $27 (03-2008).

Like to golf?  Head to Isleta Casino and RV Park south of Albuquerque, New Mexico .  Right next door (with free shuttle) is a 27-hole course with very reasonable green fees.

The park has showers and laundry.  Hookups: 5WSCI for $30 (10-2008) and you might see your next door neighbor there! We did.

Casino RV Resorts

These casinos have stepped up the amenities, but not necessary the price.  This is Terrible's Lakeside Casino and RV, in Pahrump, Nevada.  But it is anything but terrible.  The RV sites surround a large pond (small lake).

Sites are concrete pads and patios.  The park is huge, the casino rather small and when we were there it was very smoky!  The rate? $16 using our Passport America membership.  Hookups are EWSC (08-2008).

In Kinder, Louisiana is the Coushatta Indian RV Resort and it is one of our favorites.  We had a coupon from the Travel Life RV Park Directory and received 50% off our stay.  We paid $15 (04-2007). Hookups are EWSC and facilities abound.  Large pond, pool, spa, showers, laundry, concrete pads and patios.

A free shuttle will take you to the casino which is only a short walk. Park Models shown below are available for rent by your friends who fly in to visit with you.

The casinos that have an RV park usually allow dry camping as well.  This is true for Seven Feathers Casino in Canyonville, Oregon.  Below Pete dry camped when driving to Seattle to meet Ellen's plane.

On the way home from Alaska, we paid for the RV park.  Very nice.  Hard surface pads and patios, indoor pool and spa and a great park for clubs with nice indoor and outdoor facilities for large groups.  Below Ellen admires the huge awnings on the Country Coach Prevost.  Each of these Girard awnings costs $5,000.00.  With two awnings on each side, that's enough dough to purchase a new Cummins 400 HP for our motorhome!  $36 for 5WSCI (10-2009).

We have stayed at many amazing places.  The Kah-nee-ta RV Park and casino has to be in the top ten.  For a casino it is pricey, $53 with 3WSC.  The casino is shown on the left and is beautifully landscaped.  The photo on the right is the RV Park!

We lucked into THE BEST SITE in the park.  We were by ourselves with hundreds of feet of grass surrounding us.  Note that the sites here vary in size and oddly all cost the same.  There is one section with four sites side by side that are so close together that we are not sure you could bring your chairs out between them!  The park has all the facilities: volleyball, basketball, kayaking on the river that runs through the park . . .

Huge pool with two water slides, wading pool, spa, hotel rooms at casino, motel rooms at RV park, tipi rooms, very professional miniature golf.  This place is phenomenal and very out of the way!  Sadly this entire resort has closed permanently.

From free to $53, you get your choice at the casinos.  Oh, do we gamble?  Not really.  We do play the penny slots, usually one penny at time.  We each start with $5.00 and sometimes it lasts a few minutes and sometimes a few hours.  But the day Ellen won $40.00 on the penny slot, we just quit.

Besides the cheap slot entertainment, you can still find some cheap meals if you look hard enough.  But check our prices and don't assume anything is cheap like the old Vegas days.

Enjoy your week and be blessed.

Love, Pete and Ellen
