Week 36 - Lousiana - 04-22-2007
A big Cajun hello from Louisiana,
Before leaving Texas, we went to a very spirited church in Galveston on
Sunday. The Pastor
was full of
joy. We didn't catch much of the message because he had a very strong
Jamaican accent, but we had a wonderful time.
The houses in Galveston were built on stilts with the bottom level
being a carport and sometimes a small garage. They were all on large
lots
with an abundance of grass, no fences dividing the property. and no
driveways to the homes.
We took the free ferry from Galveston across East Texas to Louisiana.
From this point on we began crossing many many amazing bridges as
we
traveled along the water
into Louisiana.
We stayed overnight at the Coushatta RV Resort and Casino in Kinder,
Louisiana.
It was lovely, so we stayed for three days.
We traveled along the scenic byways to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and
Pete stopped at several small high schools along the way.
These roads are more well suited to motorcycle riding than to motor
home driving as the roads are narrow, rough and have no shoulders.
New Orleans is a very unique city. We stayed just north of the French
Quarter in a very nice RV park. Here are some pictures of the city.
The French Quarter is full of bars, restaurants, shops, art galleries
and wrought iron and people.
The Garden District has hundreds huge and beautiful old homes.
Next week we will see some of the devastated areas of Louisiana and
Mississippi and continue our trek to Florida.
