Week 941-942 - Cruising Alaska - 09-08-2024

Ketchikan Alaska

Ellen's photo approaching Ketchikan at 4:47 am. Yes, Pete is still in bed.

Like all our ports of call, these towns are built on shore or on docks.

The town of Ketchikan near the cruise ship docks.

Most of our clan.

There are a lot of interesting buildings in town. We learned that all stores closest to the ships are owned by the cruise lines. You need to get 3 to 4 blocks deeper into town to buy from the locals.

Our daughters pose with their hubbies.

Emily booked a tour for all 14 of us. That was serendipitous as we had a tour bus that holds 14! Our first stop was a salmon ladder right in town.

Climbing the ladder is hard. Most salmon have to take a half dozen tries to get up a step. This one made it.

Our next stop was a tide pool. The tides here come in and out 4 times a day. We arrived a low tide.

Crabs, starfish and mussels abound.

As we left, the tide was rising. This bald eagle dropped a fish into its nest.

This visit was the creek by a salmon hatchery.

Some yelled "bear" and all jumped out to see it.

No bears were sited, but this osprey gave us a show.

The final stop was hidden falls. Sister Donnalee joins us for our 50th Anniversary photo.

Melissa and Mario perch to appreciate the falls without falling.

With love, Pete and Ellen
