Favorite Photos #31 Alberta's Icefields Parkway
This week's route is repetitve, so we present the Icefields Parkway
We have been told that if you cannot make the trip to Alaska, travel to Alberta's Icefields Parkway. While not as huge you will see plenty of beautiful glaciers, glacial rivers, lakes and waterfalls. We did drive down the Icefields Parkway on our way home from Alaska. What they say is true; the Icefields is gorgeous as you will see.
Hwy 16, the Yellow Head Hwy, between Prince George, B.C. and Jasper, Alberta.
The Athabasca Waterfalls are in Jasper National Park of Canada. They are so powerful and you get to stand so close after a short walk from the parking area. Simply a magnificent testimony of the world that God created. We couldn't get enough. We present here a dozen of the hundreds of photos we took. It was so hard to limit what we chose to show.
The rock formations are as incredible as the falls.
We include this photo just to prove that we were actually there.
In the town of Jasper is the Whistle Stop Pub. While we were enjoying our food and drink, these folks came in one by one and sat down for a jam session. Perhaps planned or just impromptu. Either way, they played as a well as a rehearsed concert.
Our very peaceful site at Whistlers Provincial Park in Jasper National.
Heading south on Hwy 93, the Icefields Parkway, toward Banff National Park.
Glaciers up ahead!
The glaciers are everywhere.
You can see the gray glacial runoff in the river.
The beauty is endless.
Even the roadway is fabulous.
These photos are from August 2009, the last week of our Big Adventure to Alaska. Future Favorite Photos will span more weeks. While there is beauty everywhere we go, truly our Alaskan trip had the best photos of any trip.
With love, Pete, Ellen and Mandy
