Week 431-432 - Leaving Redding Again - 11-23-2014

Leaving Redding

After spending a month in Oregon with routine doctor visits for Ellen's eye recovery, we spent the next month in Redding. Donnalee provided us with her mini-truck so we could speed around town and enjoy our long-term stay. At least every other day we played cards and enjoyed fellowship. On off days we ate hamburgers or dined at the Elks. We twice needed to return to Medford to see Dr. Rinkoff. Once in Donnalee's truck and a second time with her on a road trip.  Thank you dear sister for your generosity.

Our home for a month at the Redding Elks. We had dozens of unique neighbors as most stayed just a few days.

Twice during the month, Emily came from Butte Valley for a visit. This time with Micah and Zeb. The Elks is right on the Sacramento River Trail. We hiked the trail many times during our stay.

A fun sight from the trail is the train bridge way up in the air.

Micah, also in the air, shows off her balancing ability. Zeb, meanwhile, says "This is myyyyyy mama!"

These two sculptured bridges are near the Elks. The close bridge is for autos, the other for walking and biking.

This western view from the walking bridge shows the Sacramento river. The trail is along both banks.

The trail is wide with dotted yellow lines down the middle. There is plenty of room for bikers to pass the hikers. The ducks enjoyed watching us pass by.

1) Ellen stands in the middle of the Peace Labyrinth. This place rocks! 2) We enjoyed the entrepreneurship of this well-placed oasis on the trail. And, yes they did have Diet Coke, whew!

1) This 13 foot width trail bridge is 418 feet long. A concrete-stress-ribbon bridge, built in 1990, it was the first of its kind in North America. 2) With no leaves on the north side trail you can see the dividing line.

Another great trail is at Clear Creek just south of Redding. This area shows the salmon spawning area. The salmon come annually from the Pacific Ocean at San Francisco, a trip of 300 miles.

1) Mandy enjoyed Clear Creek. 2) Kayakers can enjoy the float down the creek but are encouraged to stop and walk at this point . . .

. . . or face this deadly section.

Back at the ranch Mandy poses saying "my hair looks good today". Well, maybe not!

Finally, after an enjoyable 28 days in Redding, we have headed back to Paso Robles. A quick trip (for us) this time. We stayed over night just once at Riverpoint Marina and RV in Stockton.

It is nice to get rolling again. We'll spend the holidays here and then head to somewhere warm, "as it should be".

Love, Pete, Ellen and Mandy
