Week 527 - Utah Rocks - 09-18-2016

Utah Rocks!

Leaving Star Valley Ranch RV Resort we meandered our way to St. George, Utah. Most people we talked to would have gone west into Idaho and caught the I-15 for the fastest route. But, we were only going 500 miles and side roads were much prettier and more fun. What seemed like one road was really US-89, Idaho-61, Wyoming-89, US-30, Wyoming-89, I-80, US-189 and finally the I-15. This route rocks!

1) Mandy in Star Valley was impatient to get going and leave Pickleball behind. 2) The southern end of Star Valley.

The valley leads into these mountain. Mandy, as always, is alert, watching the road ahead.

1) Our first stop was the only RV park in Evanston, Wyoming; Phillips RV Campground; family-owned for over 100 years! 2) As you head into Utah the red rocks start to appear.

Cruising down the US-89 the terrain varies from fields and streams to what else? Rocks.

1) Next stop was Heber City and a 4.5 star stay at Mountain Valley RV Resort. We only planned for one day but it was too nice not to stay. And we were treated to a thunderstorm and hail that sounded like golf balls hitting the roof. 2) Deer Creek Reservoir south of Heber City on the way to Provo. There is an RV park on the shore with a view like this.

Great sights as we parallel the Provo River, even a waterfall that came out of nowhere.

1) Wagons West RV park in Fillmore, Utah. 2) Along this drive were thousands of sunflowers. Hard to see?

This view that Ellen got is little better!

This shot of multiple mountains was taken out of the MotherShip's front glass.

We reached our St. George hangout for the month. A week of Pickleball practice, a week of Paso Robles family reunion and back for two weeks of Pickleball tournaments.

Just a few miles from St. George is Snow Canyon State Park.

It is filled with variety of rock formations and a couple of sand dunes.

You get one of the best panoramic views of St. George from atop Red Hills Parkway.

Mandy got up to check it out.

Its a bird, a plane, no it's flying flag man!

Flag man dropped into the stadium. We don't know what the event was, but we heard singing from where we were. At the same time there was a car show at the Iceberg Drive-In.

We don't know if these folks on Utah rocks were watching the flag man, the car show or us.

The lights of: the city, the stadium and the temple.

We love coming to St. George. The landscape is great, the people are nice, the Pickleball is competitive and we have many friends who live here or come for Pickleball. Utah (and Pickleball) rocks! Next week we head to Paso Robles for a family reunion. We'll be away from the MotherShip so the travelogue will be delayed.

Thanks for traveling with us, love, Pete, Ellen and Mandy
