Week 488 - Aunt Glenda's Memorial - 12-20-2015

Aunt Glenda Prowett Memorial

On November 29, 2015 Aunt Glenda Prowett passed away leaving Ellen and her family with just one Aunt and Uncle left on her father's side; Aunt Ann and Uncle Ron Horn. As always, every Horn family relative who could possibly attend the memorial was there. The event was held at the La Canada Presbyterian Church. This is the church that Glenda, and her late husband Bob, attended for decades.

Family members came, signed the guest book and got seated waiting for the time to honor Glenda.

Dr. Chuck Osburn orchestrated the event, reading scriptures, offering encouragement, and providing us with Glenda's biography. There is no doubt that everyone learned something they did not know about this amazing lady. For starters, Glenda, as an elder in the church was one of three who hired Dr. Osborn thirty-nine years ago.

Glenda was born on September 4th, 1927 in Grinnell, Iowa. Her sister is Betty Jean; brothers are Chuck, Carl and Ron. Only Ron survives her. In 1936 the family moved from Grinnell to Los Angeles. Glenda graduated from Manual Arts High School in 1945 and attended Knapp College of Nursing to obtain her degree.

Glenda was married to Bob Prowett on March 3rd, 1953. Their daughter Dorothy was born in June 1957 and Janet was two years later, also in June. Glenda was always the caring mother but found time to be a nurse, Sunday school teacher, be involved in Girl Scouts, the PTA, the Assistance League, the Red Cross volunteering and training, and a deacon and elder at La Canada Presbyterian.

Granddaughter Greta sings as family views photos. Second photo: Four generations of girls.

"Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. " Hebrews 10:25. The family gathers and eats and visits as a slide show plays.

Janice mentioned that it is too bad we have to have a memorial to learn about the incredible lives of those we have loved for so long. We do cherish these times.

We will all miss Glenda. But we are pleased to know she is with Bob and the Lord in her new heavenly body. Glenda is a the "good and faithful servant". We are all better off having had her as a role model.

We wish for you a blessed Merry Christmas.

The Lord bless you and keep you;
The Lord make His face shine upon you,
And be gracious to you;
The Lord lift up His countenance upon you,
And give you peace. Numbers 6:24-26

With love and respect,

Pete & Ellen Mattson
