Week 273 - Los Algodones, Baja California - 11-06-2011

Hola a todos

Nuestro camino esta semana tomaron del Surprise, Arizona a Los Algodones, Baja California. No fue una sorpresa que nos fuimos allí. Un gran número de viajeros RV ypájaros de la nieve sabe que puede ir a Algodones para el trabajo dental de bajo costo. Por ejemplo, la mayoría de las oficinas dentales que cobra $ 20.00 para la limpieza. ¿Qué hay de $ 200 a $ 500 por una corona? Our path this week took us from from Surprise, Arizona to Los Algodones, Baja California. It was not a surprise that we went there. A large number of RV travelers and Snow Birds know that you can go to Algodones for inexpensive dental work. For example, most dental offices there charge $20.00 for cleaning. How about $190 to $500 for a crown? Algodones is just a few hundred feet over the US border. You can park your car in the US and walk over in a few minutes.

México no requiere su pasaporte para entrar, de nuevo, no se olvide 'em si deseavolver.

Mexico does not require your passport to get in, so again, don't forget 'em if you want to come back.

Este es un frente típico de oficina. Tiene varios consultorios dentales y ópticos que bordean la calle con los vendedores que cubren por completo las aceras. Ropa,joyería, cerámica y obras de arte hechas de todos los materiales imaginables.

This is a typical office front. You have multiple dental and optical offices lining the street with vendors completely covering the sidewalks. Clothes, jewelry, pottery and artwork made of every conceivable material.

Purses, jewelry, clothing and stain glass front these offices. A majority of the vendors speak fluent English and while each will ask for your business, none were overly pushy.

Ellen's appointment was with Dr. Virginia Castro D.D.S. The office was modern, clean and the staff was very professional. The dentist quickly prepared her molar for a crown.

Karen had her teeth cleaned at the Smile Specialist while Gordon went to Dr. Isaias Iniguez. It is recommended that you only go to dentists referred by others.

Algodones cuenta con unos 4.000 habitantes y alrededor de 350 odontólogos. Hayun gran número de tiendas de óptica también. Algodones has about 4,000 residents and about 350 dentists. There are a huge number of optical stores as well. Note, that unlike the United States, Mexico does not have a licensing or accreditation process. So, hang a shingle and you are a dentist! Hence, get a recommendation before you visit any office.

While taking photos, many of the vendors wanted to be in the picture. 1) Here is Ernesto with the thumbs up. 2) We shot a picture of Omar's office and he asked to be sure he was in the photo.

Okay, so I didn't get to go; something about a rabies certificate. And, I am not supposed to be emailing but I can't help myself. The trouble is, they wrote it all in Spanish. So, I got out my dictionary and checked out what they wrote. I worked real hard on this, so I hope the translations are accurate.
