Week 171 - Buchart Gardens Photo Collection - 11-22-2009
Benvenuto,
In Italian, it means Welcome and it is the name that the Butcharts
choose for their estate.
Welcome to The Butchart Gardens.
Robert Pim Butchart moved
his family from Ontario, Canada to Vancouver Island in 1904. He had
manufactured Portland cement in Ontario and moved to Tod Inlet and
purchased his estate, as it was rich in limestone, a vital component of
the cement.
When all the limestone had been quarried, all that remained was a empty
pit. Robert's wife, Jennie began planning to beautify the 55 acres of
their estate. Tons of top soil were brought in and under her
supervision, a garden was planted. The result of the last 100 years is
world renown and unbelievably colorful,
The Butchart Gardens.
"So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field,
how they grow; they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you that
even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Now
if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow
is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of
little faith??" Matthew 7:17
No additional commentary is needed, the beauty speaks for itself.
Love, Pete and Ellen
