Week 40 - Planes, Trains and Automobiles, Santa Barbara and Georgia - 05-20-2007

Greetings to everyone,

On Monday we took Amtrak to Santa Barbara.  Paul , our close friend for 33+ years (2007), came down in the afternoon.  We caught up on everything and  had an outstanding dinner at Holdrens on State Street (recommended).  Thank you, Paul.  Ellen's operation was scheduled for the next day.  On Tuesday, Ellen's sisters, Janice and Carla, came down for the day.  We chatted in the morning and they dropped us at the surgery center.  The operation was quick and Ellen's wrist began feeling better right away.  We had a late lunch with them and shopped, of course.  Janice and Carla went home in the evening and the next day we rode the train back to San Diego.

Chad picked us up from the train and after a nap, we had a birthday dinner for Melissa and Chad.  On Thursday we missed our flight to Atlanta.  We rescheduled a later flight that arrived at 9pm.  Our wonderful Georgia hosts, Charlie and Cheryl, were there to take us "home".  We recouped at their house for two nights and started our journey to the coast.

On Saturday, we were headed for Augusta Georgia.  Pete got a rare headache and needed to stop.  Ellen found Rocky Comfort Plantation RV Park for the night.  This 40 acre park has only 14 RV sites.  The owners Terry and Jenny Johnson invited us to fish fry with about 30 others.  The Southern Hospitality just keeps on coming!  We met so many nice folks and had a great dinner.  Good thing too, as we did not have time to stop for food.  As of Sunday, Ellen's wrist is pain free and she has been sleeping better as well.  We praise God for all the blessings that he has bestowed on us.

In Santa Barbara with Paul, Janice and Carla.

The train is great!  Roomy seats and aisles and 120 volt outlets at every seat that allowed Pete to work all the way.

Ellen, our resident terrorist, gets searched again!

The view over San Diego as we left town.

Our Georgia hosts, Charlie and Cheryl.  We played a lot of pool. Both Cheryl and Charlie are excellent players.

Our gorgeous site at Rocky Comfort Plantation RV Park near Warrenton, GA.

All the states east of the Mississippi are totally covered with trees.  Every road, highway, freeway, house and crop fields are carved out of the trees.  This road is typical of everywhere we have driven is this area.

Next week we will be in South Carolina dodging hurricanes.  Thank you for your prayers for Ellen.

Love, Pete and Ellen
