Scooter Brands and Models

This review is for freeway-capable scooters. Smaller scooters are great for the park and city streets, but our scooter is our only mode of transportation and must take us everywhere.

We have owned Honda, Yamaha and Suzuki motorcycles. If you are not stuck on a single brand, we recommend our 650cc Suzuki Burgman. We rate is 5+! For any brand, a 400c is adequate, but a 600+cc is a smooth and awesome ride that keeps up with any other motorcycles. We have ridden with Harleys and Goldwings and they do not leave us behind.

Suzuki: Suzuki does not offer "city" scooters. Both there 400 and 650cc model are freeway-capable. We choose the 650 with it's very smooth 2-cylinder, water cooled engine and enough power to go up to 110 mph!

Honda, Yamaha and Kawasaki do not make freeway-capable scooters (01-2020).

Vespa: We call our 650 Suzuki Burgman a Vespa on Steroids! While Vespa was the name in scooters, they do not make freeway-capable machines.

The Suzuki Burgman 650cc Scooter

We make no money from our recommendations on this web site. Maybe we should, but we just want others to love their purchase decisions. Our scooter is a case in point. Having owned seven motorcycles previously and we were looking for one or two for our "tow cars". We stumbled upon the Burgman and thought it was bizarre! But after web research and a test drive, we were sold!

1. It has an automatic transmission. It goes 110 mph and can blow the socks off many large motorcycles And at the same time you barely can hear the engine. The onboard mpg meters shows 50.0 max, but you get more than that. Did I mention the three glove compartments, one with a lock and 12 volt adapter?

2. A scooter has a windshield, leg fairings and floorboards. The low deck in front of the seat allows for easy entry. As an older rider you don't have to "throw" you leg over the seat to mount it.

3. The trunk is awesome. Under the seat you can store two full face mask helmets and still have room for more. When riding home from the grocery store you can put five plastic bags of groceries under the seat!

Smooth, fast, automatic. You won't be disappointed!
